Project Summary
Umberslade was appointed as Principal Contractor to stabilise an earth slope at Sandwell Grove. We provided all labour, plant and materials to clear the slope, install a high-performance geosynthetic reinforcement mat and fix it in place with 78 Platipus Earth Anchors.
Schedule of Work
We began by de-vegetating the slope face and clearing the arisings to give a clean working surface. Our operatives then hand-dug 300mm x 300mm trenches at the crest and toe of the slope to secure the reinforcement matting.
The Pyramat 75 High Performance Reinforcement Mat was draped down the slope, tucked into both trenches and pinned in position before the trenches were backfilled. This gave a continuous, secure reinforcement layer across the whole face.
The Platipus Earth Anchors were then installed through the matting. Each anchor was tensioned to a 24kN proof load before being slackened back to its specified 19kN working load, confirming every anchor met the project design.
Because the work area was so restricted, we hired a self-contained Eco welfare unit for the duration of the project so the team had proper facilities throughout.
Key figures
- 78 Platipus Earth Anchors installed
- Each anchor proof loaded to 24kN and set to a 19kN working load
- 300mm x 300mm matting trenches hand-dug at crest and toe
- All slope works completed by hand, with no conventional plant
