reinforced concrete piles cropped
metres of retaining wall track sawn at 400mm deep
Project Summary
During a project in Brierley Hill, Umberslade provided all labour, plant and materials to crop reinforced concrete piles down to the level marked out by site.
The challenge
Site could not get traditional excavators or a pile cropper into the work area, so the piles had to be reduced another way. The piles had been concreted above the required level, with the rebar sleeved to that level so it would not bond. The aim was to remove the excess concrete without damaging the remaining pile or its reinforcement.
Schedule of Work
Our experienced drillers diamond core drilled 45mm diameter cores into each pile, positioned to avoid the rebar. Once each core was removed, we inserted a Darda C12 splitter and engaged it, expanding the splitter to crack the concrete from within.
The cracked concrete was then either lifted off using resin-fixed anchors or carefully broken out by hand, leaving clean pile heads at the required level.
Alongside the pile cropping, we floor sawed 20 linear metres at 300mm deep with a diesel self-propelled floor saw, over-core drilled metal studs at 152mm diameter by 300mm deep, and used our Pentruder HF wall saw to track saw through a reinforced concrete retaining wall, 5 metres long and 400mm deep.
Key figures
- 40 reinforced concrete piles cropped, each 750mm diameter by 1 metre high
- 45mm diameter cores drilled clear of the rebar
- 20 linear metres of floor sawing at 300mm deep
- Metal studs over-cored at 152mm diameter by 300mm deep
- 5 metres of retaining wall track sawn at 400mm deep
