/ Strip Out Operative

About the work:

Strip out of commercial premises

Minor / light structure demolition

Ideally you should:

Have 2 years experience in a demolition or construction job

Pay & Benefits:

£10.08 - £13.25 per hour, dependent on qualifications & experience

GROUNDWORKER

What qualifications do I need to work at Umberslade?If you are joining our strip out team you just need a CSCS card. If you are applying to our Groundworks team you will need a CPCS card as a minimum, see the job advertisement for more details.

What hours will I work?Normal site working hours are 7.30am to 3.30pm, plus the time you will be travelling to & from site. If you have to travel over an hour to get to site you get paid extra. You can also request to work additional hours at the weekend and out of normal working hours (if available), which are paid at a rate of up to double-time.

Where will I be working?Much of our work is in the Midlands, but we also work nationwide. If we work away, we provide free overnight accommodation and daily stay-away bonus pay. We also try to accommodate workers if they don’t want to work away regularly.

Can I earn a bonus?Yes! All operatives are eligible for 3-monthly bonuses based on great performance. CCDO operatives and Site Managers can also earn project-related bonuses.

How do I get to work?Our Site Managers collect our employees daily from the car park of Silhillians Sports Club & Conference Centre, Warwick Road, Knowle B93 9LW. Usual meet time is 6am. You need to make your own way to and from the Silhillians Sports Club.

Is there parking?Yes! Parking at the Silhillians Club is free of charge for Umberslade employees (you need to register your car with us within 24 hours of first parking). The car park is monitored by CCTV cameras. Vehicles are parked at the owner’s risk.

Do I get paid holidays?Yes! Our full-time site workers get 28 days paid annual holiday a year (including bank holidays) which is accrued from days worked. Also, after 5 years of continuous contract employment, we’ll increase your holiday allowance!

Can I get promoted?Yes! We are growing and always looking for a future Site Manager or Contracts Manager; if you demonstrate a willingness to work hard and gain experience and competence, you could be promoted. All our Site Managers started as Demolition Operatives.

What training & qualifications will I get?All site employees receive Asbestos Awareness training as standard. If you work hard and demonstrate a willingness to learn & progress, we will also fund your qualification to CCDO (Certificate of Competence for Demolition Operatives) which earns a higher rate of pay. You could also then obtain other qualifications including PASMA, IPAF, First Aid and SSSTS -which is the path to potentially becoming a Site Manager.

Do I need to bring my own tools / Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)?No. We provide high-quality tools and PPE for our site workers. Issued PPE includes Hi-viz vest, face-fitted face mask and hard hat as standard. Steel-toe capped/protective mid-sole work boots are provided on request. Other PPE is provided as required on site.

What clothes should I wear to work?For your first day you will be provided with our work uniform that includes branded T-shirts and a jumper. New site workers wear their own jeans or work trousers. Upon completion of a 3-month probation our site workers can also request a pair of Umberslade work trousers and a beanie hat.
